Xceed PDF Library for .NET is a lightweight way to build, edit, sign & secure PDF documents from your .NET applications. Its concept is simple: an easy-to-use API which allows to either add, modify or extract elements to or from a PDF file.

PDF Generation

The simple-to-use API allows to easily create PDF documents from scratch. Once a PDF is created, it is then possible to add extra pages, text, shapes, form fields & other useful elements into it.

Text can be stylized using standard fonts, or system embedded fonts taken from simple .tff files. If needed, it can be wrapped around specific areas to create neat & professional-looking documents with easy-to-read paragraphs.

Need something more? You can add a touch of interactivity using hyperlinks & form fields. All major form fields types are supported:

Text fields
Number fields
Date/Time fields
Checkbox fields
Combo box fields
Listbox fields
Radio buttons
Digital signature fields

Modification & Extraction

PDF Library for .NET’s API allows to modify characteristics of existing PDF documents; for example, it is possible to easily modify the size of your document’s pages. Once the document is modified, it is of course possible to save it so that you don’t lose all of the precious modifications you’ve just made.

The API also offers various options to extract information from existing PDF documents. This means that it is possible to extract elements like specific pages, words, characters, as well as other text-related elements, like fonts, character sizes & the colors used to stylize specific characters. Images & paths (lines & rectangles), along with form fields, hyperlinks, bookmarks, attachments & even document-specific characteristics like metadata & page rotation are also part of Xceed PDF Library for .NET’s extraction package.

This new release brings a lot of changes to Xceed PDF Library. Here are the highlights:

Xceed PdfLibrary for .NET no longer depends on Xceed.Drawing.NET.dll, which is a breaking change.
The FillColor & StrokeColor properties found in the TextStyle class are now respectively replaced by the Brush & the Pen properties, which is a breaking change; note that various methods have also been replaced accordingly to follow this change.
Various methods have also been renamed in the Pen class to accommodate the fact that the StrokeColor property is now named the Color property and the StrokeWidth property is now named the Thickness property.
It is now possible to sign & certify PdfDocuments, as well as validate the various signatures found in said document.
It is now possible to create Images from a stream or a path.
It is now possible to insert Pages at a specific index in the PageCollection, which also allows to reorder the Pages found in said collection.
It is now possible to add Bookmarks to a PdfDocument, as well as create levels to organize those Bookmarks. All Bookmarks will be stored & managed via the new BookmarkCollection class.
It is now possible to use Bookmarks, Pages or Page ranges as a reference point to split a PdfDocument into multiple PdfDocuments.
It is now possible to remove or clear a Bookmark, an Attachment or a Signature from a PdfDocument. It is also possible to remove or clear a FormField from a Page, a Page from the PageCollection, as well as an Hyperlink or Watermark from a PdfDocument or a Page.
The properties found in the ComboBoxFormField, DateTimeFormField, ListBoxFormField, NumberFormField, TextBoxFormField, PushButtonFormField, RadioButtonFormField, RadioButtonGroupFormField & DocumentInformations classes, can now be modified.
It is now possible to modify the Watermarks found in a PdfDocument.
The new FontEmbeddingMode enum can now be used to determine which font embedding mode will be used when using a TrueType font.
The new MergeOptions, class can now be used to adjust the options available when merging one or more PdfDocuments into a target document.
Overall, this new release implements 41 new features, has 14 breaking changes & fixes 10 bugs.
