Xceed Brings Industry-First Navigation Capabilities to Its WPF DataGrid

MONTREAL, QC - February 1, 2010 - Xceed today launched version 3.6 of its WPF datagrid. The Professional Edition features an innovative new group navigation control, as well as print preview capabilities, new themes, and more. A fully functional trial version of this product is now available for download at xceed.com.

Version 3.6 of the Professional Edition of Xceed DataGrid for WPF provides a powerful new group navigation control that greatly enhances the datagrid’s usability. Available in the Tableflow™ view-and unlike anything offered by other data grid controls-the control lets the end-user go instantly to any group or sub-group with a single click in a combo box. Also new in version 3.6 are print preview capabilities that let the end-user see what a document will look like before printing it. Page view and layout configurations are reflected in the preview. The preview is generated in the background, so there is no waiting for the entire preview.

Other new features in the Professional Edition include the ability to use multi-selection with a virtualized data source. Two new themes have also been added: a vibrant Windows 7 theme and the theme used in Xceed DataGrid for WPF Live Explorer. Finally, HP’s QuickTest Professional (QTP) is now supported, along with the currently supported White and Ranorex, allowing for automated UI testing.

Features new to version 3.6 of the Standard Edition-and also available in the Professional Edition-include scrolling speed improvements when dealing with non-virtualized data sources (100,000 rows and up), and the ability to select cells (single, multiple, and extended modes) in addition to the standard row selection, which means end-users can now select and copy blocks of cells like in Excel. Finally, various cursors in different views-such as "busy", "resize", and "drag" cursors-can be customized through new properties.

Both editions benefit from various bug fixes.

Xceed Announces Ground-Breaking New DataGrid Features

MONTREAL, QC - November 17, 2009 - Xceed today unveiled several new features of upcoming datagrid products at Microsoft’s PDC 2009. A team including the company’s lead datagrid developers was on hand to demonstrate some of the capabilities that are to appear in a future version of Xceed DataGrid for WPF and in Xceed DataGrid for Silverlight.

Scheduled for release in the first half of 2010, Xceed DataGrid for WPF v4.0 will introduce “touch” capabilities, becoming the first datagrid control to take advantage of this interactivity paradigm. The Tableflow™ Touch view, which supports all the features of the recently released Tableflow™ view-itself a stunning take on the traditional 2D grid view-and all the rest of the datagrid’s features, will let developers incorporate smooth scrolling with inertia, flick-scrolling, rebound, etc., into their application’s table views. The graphic design of the view takes into account Microsoft’s standards regarding “touch” in order to facilitate interacting with it using a finger. Other industry-first features showcased at the PDC include a beautiful Windows 7 theme unlike any other and a new group navigation button that makes getting to the correct group easier than ever before.

Xceed DataGrid for Silverlight is also scheduled to be released in Q2 2010, and Xceed’s team demonstrated some of the features of this upcoming product. Providing a high-impact user experience that is radically different than anything available on the market, this datagrid will be incredibly responsive-thanks to asynchronous data virtualization and animated effects such as smooth scrolling.

Xceed Brings Rich, Fluid, High Performance Experience to WPF Datagrids

This version offers a striking new view called Tableflow™, as well as several other new features. A fully functional trial version of this product is available for download at xceed.com.

The new features in this version allow developers to create WPF applications that deliver an end-user experience unlike anything other WPF grid controls can offer. The Tableflow™ view provides capabilities such as inertial smooth scrolling, where rows and pages move away fluidly and are replaced by the new data in the same way, and animated full-column reordering. Xceed Launches WPF Themes

MONTREAL, QC - August 31, 2009 - Xceed today released Xceed Professional Themes for WPF, which provides WPF themes that faithfully reproduce the styles of some of the most popular operating systems and applications. Included in the product are Glass, Media (Windows Media Player), and Office 2007 themes. A fully functional trial version of this product is available for download at xceed.com.

Xceed’s new WPF themes mean that developers can now style any official Microsoft WPF control and its child items in only a few minutes. Properties behave as expected: a control will be properly shaded according to the chosen theme when its color is set, for example. And because implicit styles are supported, the coding needed to apply beautiful, uniform styles to an application is greatly reduced, letting the developer concentrate on more important tasks. The themes were meticulously created by Xceed’s experienced WPF technical design and graphic artist teams.

The product’s Glass theme reproduces the kinds of colors, translucency, and animation that lend a modern look and feel to the interfaces found in Windows Vista and the upcoming Windows 7 operating system, helping end-users focus on the task at hand, rather than on the application and its controls. Matching brushes that can be applied to the developer’s own controls are also included, so they can fit seamlessly into the theme. This theme is also available as a separate product, Xceed Glass Theme for WPF.

The Media theme applies the styles found in the popular Windows Media Player application. Also included is a custom button that resembles the rounded ones found in that application. This theme is also available separately as Xceed Media Theme for WPF.

Finally, the included Office 2007 themes (blue, black, and silver) let developers create applications with a more traditional but nevertheless modern look that will fit in with past, present, and future operating systems. These themes can also be purchased in Xceed Office 2007 Themes for WPF.

Xceed Gives Developers the Advantage of WinZip 12 Support

MONTREAL, QC - August 3, 2009 - Xceed today updated all of its Zip compression products with the addition of support for WinZip 12 (LZMA) and UTF-8 character encoding. These capabilities are currently offered by no other data manipulation library. Fully functional trial versions of these products are available for download at xceed.com.

Both of these technologies are available in WinZip 12, the most popular compression utility on the market and the de facto standard when it comes to compression features. Supporting its capabilities is therefore an important factor in an application’s success. Xceed’s data manipulation products now let developers add these capabilities to their software.

The LZMA algorithm compresses files with compression ratios potentially significantly higher than what other algorithms such as bzip2 are capable of, yet with decompression speeds similar to what is possible with gzip. LZMA is used by WinZip by default when it deems it appropriate for the file being compressed.

Support for UTF-8 character encoding means enhanced support of international characters in filenames and comments, further improving WinZip 12 compatibility.

Xceed Enhances Data Virtualization and Data Source Support in Its WPF Datagrid

MONTREAL, QC - June 15, 2009 - Xceed today launched version 3.2 of Xceed DataGrid for WPF Professional Edition. This update provides new features and bug fixes. A fully functional trial version of the Professional Edition is available for download at xceed.com.

Xceed DataGrid for WPF Professional Edition v3.2 offers several new data virtualization capabilities. These additions extend the contexts in which data virtualization will have an impact, improving the performance that developers can expect from applications using this product. Specifically, the datagrid now supports data virtualization when grouping, when using data sources that implement the IQueryable interface, and when inserting and deleting items.

Support has also been implemented for data sources that use Entity Framework, Microsoft’s .NET object-relational mapping framework, which facilitates the developer’s job of working with different types of data sources.

Xceed Updates Its Networking Products

MONTREAL, QC - March 9, 2009 - Xceed today released updates of its .NET and Silverlight networking components. These versions contain important new features and bug fixes. Fully functional free trial versions of these 100%-managed components are now available for download on Xceed's website.

Xceed FTP for .NET has been updated to version 4.0 and features performance enhancements that solve certain problems that can arise when connecting to a server running behind a firewall, with the addition of the CCC (clear command channel) command. Other interfaces changes, which have also been made to Xceed FTP for .NET CF (v4.0), further improve working with servers protected by a firewall.

In addition, internal architecture changes will help prevent applications from hanging or small files from being empty after transfer under certain circumstances. Finally, various enumerations have been modified to match those found in the .NET Framework to take advantage of the .NET Framework SslStream class; these improvements have also been made to the FTP Workflow Foundation activities available in Xceed Activities for WF (v1.3).

Xceed Upload for Silverlight has been updated to version 1.1. This version features the ability to upload unlimited amounts of data in a single or batch operation, using the HTTP 1.1 “chunked” format and Silverlight’s Sockets class. These enhancements greatly increase the contexts where the product can be used. Developers can also choose to use their own implementation of the HttpWebRequest class if they need to use a specialized transfer algorithm.

Xceed to Debut WPF DataGrid Webinars

MONTREAL, QC - March 9, 2009 - Xceed is to hold its first interactive workshop in a webinar starting at 10 a.m. (Pacific Time) / 1 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Thursday, March 26, 2009. The goal of the Xceed DataGrid for WPF webinars is to demonstrate to participating developers how to use Xceed’s WPF datagrid and to provide them an opportunity to ask questions after the training session. The first webinar sold out in roughly 12 minutes; a link for the next webinar with openings is available at http://xceed.com/Presentation/webinar.aspx.

Attendees will learn the recommended best practices as applied to improving their experience with Xceed DataGrid for WPF and increasing their knowledge of the product. For example, the following topics are slated to be covered in the March 26, 2009 webinar:

Providing data to the grid using common sources such as ADO.NET DataSets, XML, and custom collections (BindingList<T> and ObservableCollection).
Adding items to and deleting them from these sources, and committing modifications to data sources.
Handling the insertion and removal of items in a source that does not inherently support these operations (List<T>).

More advanced workshops are scheduled, for which the attendance fee will be $250 USD.

The webinars can be accessed using the GoToWebinar Web conferencing tool. Each webinar will last between 90 and 120 minutes, beginning with a 60-minute training session. A question-and-answer session lasting 30 to 60 minutes will then follow; questions may be asked either through GoToWebinar or by phone. Attendees will receive a recording and a transcript of the webinar, as well as an e-mail containing the sample code used during the presentation. Questions not answered during the presentation will be answered in the transcript.

Code will be written in XAML when appropriate, but all code-behind will be done in C#. A VB.NET version of the application that is used during the workshop will be provided on demand.

Xceed Adds Data Virtualization to DataGrid for WPF

MONTREAL, QC - January 26, 2009 - Xceed today launched version 3.1 of Xceed DataGrid for WPF Professional Edition. New features including asynchronous data virtualization and Excel export have been added to this grid control, designed specifically for Windows Presentation Foundation. A fully functional trial version is available now for download from Xceed’s website.

Version 3.1 of Xceed DataGrid for WPF Professional Edition marks the debut of five features that users of Xceed’s WPF grid control have most requested.

Asynchronous data virtualization has been implemented, which can greatly improve performance and reduce memory usage, particularly when working with large data sources. Furthermore, because the data virtualization is asynchronous, the UI is decoupled from the data source, which ensures that the application remains responsive as data is being retrieved from the data source. Programmers have complete control over the number of records in memory and the size of data blocks through the API.

Excel export lets the datagrid export its content using either the XMLSS or the CSV format. Groups, detail content, and statistical functions (formulas and values) can all be exported using this new feature.

Developers can also now add the ability to persist datagrid user settings to their applications. As a result, the datagrid can save then restore settings such as the positions, sizes, and states of columns (whether a column is visible and/or fixed, grouping, sorting), in both master grids and details. The API is extensible, so other aspects can be persisted by developers.

A column chooser available through a context menu can be used in the datagrid, which lets end-users add or remove columns quickly with a simple right-click in certain regions of the datagrid.

Finally, support for UI automation has been added, which enables script-based testing and assistive technology, as well as other features such as clipboard copy support (HTML or CSV), alternating row styles, a delete selected rows command (available in the master grid, in details, or in both), as well as various other minor fixes.

Xceed DataGrid for WPF was the first datagrid control designed for Windows Presentation Foundation-the first third-party WPF control of any kind, in fact. It has been on the market for two years and has undergone twenty-two updates, making it the most mature product of its kind.

Xceed Launches Major Update of Free WPF DataGrid

MONTREAL, QC - January 26, 2009 - Xceed today released a major upgrade of Xceed DataGrid for WPF Express Edition, a free datagrid control intended as an alternative to Microsoft’s built-in WPF datagrid. New features include performance enhancements and ten new features. The product is now available for download from Xceed’s website.

The new version of the Express Edition features functionalities previously only available in the Professional Edition: column virtualization; column auto sizing and column widths supporting star values; IDataErrorInfo support; support for XML data sources; programmatic control of fixed columns; and the ability to insert records into non-IBindingList sources.

Other new features have also been added to the Express Edition. First, clipboard copy support allows content from the grid to be copied to any supported application, such as Excel, Word, or Notepad. Content can be sent to the clipboard as HTML or CSV. Second, each theme now also provides an alternating row style that can be activated through the TableView class. Third, a delete selected rows command has been added, which can remove rows in master grid, in details, or both. Various other minor fixes have been implemented.

In addition to these new features, version 3.1 of the Express Edition offers some of the more recent performance enhancements that have appeared in the Professional Edition. This means that developers have a free WPF datagrid capable of handling millions of rows and thousands of columns and which loads, sorts, groups, and scrolls quickly.

“The Express Edition is meant for developers looking for a free WPF datagrid that offers more features than what Microsoft’s basic datagrid does. And because it has undergone nearly monthly upgrades since its release two years ago, it’s a stable, safe choice,” said Odi Kosmatos, vice-president of R&D at Xceed. “It also offers developers something else that the Microsoft datagrid doesn’t: an upgrade path that leads to the additional advanced features of the Professional Edition. Xceed Innovates by Bringing 3D to WPF Datagrids

MONTREAL, QC - August 18, 2008 - Xceed today released version 3.0 of Xceed DataGrid for WPF Professional Edition, the most mature, most feature-rich, and fastest grid control available for Windows Presentation Foundation. A fully functional trial version is available now for download from Xceed’s website.

Version 3.0 of the Professional Edition of Xceed DataGrid for WPF features the addition of striking, flexible 3D capabilities. The included Cardflow™ 3D view gives developers and end-users complete control over aspects such as card offsets, spacing, and angles; camera position and angle; and field of view. Its multiple card layouts give total flexibility in the way that title, image, and data regions are displayed. End-users can even switch between any 2D and 3D view on the fly, while the datagrid retains its state. Xceed Upload for Silverlight lets developers quickly and easily add upload capabilities to any Silverlight 2 Beta 1 application. All upload operations are asynchronous; as a result, the Web page hosting the Silverlight application remains perfectly responsive and usable throughout the transfer.

Xceed to Embrace Microsoft's Silverlight in Upcoming Product

MONTREAL, QC - April 21, 2008 - Xceed is poised to launch Xceed Upload for Silverlight, its first offering in support of Microsoft’s promising new Silverlight technology, in May or June 2008.

Xceed Upload for Silverlight provides programmers with powerful, full-featured HTTP upload capabilities for C# and VB.NET development using Silverlight. Whether client software needs to upload single files, groups of files, or strings to Web servers, Xceed Upload for Silverlight makes implementation fast and easy. In batch mode, file transfer is deferred, letting the application gather data from different sources, such as form controls, performing the actual transfer when it is ready. Uploads are asynchronous for optimum performance, so the client software remains responsive throughout the operation.

The HTTP requests produced by the component use the standard MIME format for uploading data through the "multipart/form-data" content type. Events allow an application to set important fields in the HTTP request and to monitor the upload operation. The GZip or Deflate compression method can be used and the compression level set. Lastly, Base64 binary encoding is available to support Web browsers that do not allow the upload of non-ASCII data.

Xceed Upload for Silverlight is provided with comprehensive documentation that fully integrates into Visual Studio, as well as C#, VB.NET, and JavaScript sample applications. Xceed Provides Components for Microsoft Windows Home Server

MONTREAL, QC - December 5, 2007 - Xceed today announced that Microsoft Corp. has used Xceed Zip for .NET and Xceed Chart for .NET to implement client-side and server-side portions of its Windows Home Server product.

Windows Home Server helps families easily centralize and connect their digital experiences, providing a familiar and reliable way to store, share, and automatically protect digital photos, music, videos, and documents. Windows Home Server is primarily designed for “headless” systems without a monitor, mouse or keyboard. The software is easily configured with the Windows Home Server Console application on a home PC and allows consumers to remotely access files and home PCs via the Web.

Xceed’s components figure in the client-side and the server-side of Windows Home Server, providing both UI elements and data manipulation capabilities. First, in the Windows Home Server Console, duties for displaying charts with statistics on free storage space, usage, etc., are handled by Xceed Chart for .NET. Second, when the home server is accessed remotely, Xceed Zip for .NET is used to compress and package files so they can be downloaded as a single Zip file onto a computer over the Internet.

“When we needed a control to draw charts in the Windows Home Server Console, a colleague referred me to Xceed Software,” explained CJ Saretto, senior program manager at Microsoft. “I downloaded the trial edition to see what it could do and was blown away by the Chart Explorer application. It took all of the guesswork out of evaluating the control’s capabilities. Without writing a single line of code, we knew that Xceed Chart for .NET could meet our needs. A day later we had Xceed Chart for .NET working in our application.” Concerning Xceed Zip for .NET, he added: “When we needed a library to handle ZIP files for Windows Home Server Remote Access, we turned to Xceed immediately, and we were up and running again in less than a day!”

Dileep Kumar, a developer at Microsoft who worked directly with Xceed’s chart control, had this to say: “Xceed Chart for .NET has an elaborate set of features. It was possible to customize pretty much everything on the chart: the borders, the background, the style (3D, 2D, projection), and the text. There was pretty much no requirement we had that was not met by the control, and the graphics were fast, too. The sample application provided (Chart Explorer) helped a lot.”

Xceed Brings Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Blend Support to DataGrid

MONTREAL, QC - November 13, 2007 - Xceed today released version 1.3 of Xceed DataGrid for WPF, featuring Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Blend support. The product has also been renamed to reflect the availability of Express and Professional editions of the grid control.

In line with the naming convention Microsoft has adopted for Visual Studio 2008, the free version of Xceed’s Windows Presentation Foundation datagrid control is now called Xceed DataGrid for WPF Express Edition. Powerful and fully functional, this version-which remains free of charge-delivers a complete set of functionalities suitable for more casual users. This edition continues to provide full distribution rights, bugfixes, updates, and an unlimited number of licenses per company. Xceed DataGrid for WPF Professional Edition provides additional advanced features for the most demanding developer.

New features debuting in version 1.3 of both the Express Edition and the Professional Edition include Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Blend design-time support. The datagrid installs into the Visual Studio toolbox and lets developers set its properties in the IDE’s property grid. And by supporting Microsoft’s Expression Blend, Xceed delivers the ability to customize the look and feel of Xceed DataGrid for WPF in an environment targeted at designers, which eliminates the need for developer intervention, increases productivity, and extends an application’s impact. Also new is a scroll tip that displays information about the first visible row in the viewport when the grid is scrolled. Xceed Releases DataGrid WPF v1.2

Xceed Launches Real-Time Zip Products

MONTREAL, QC - August 7, 2007 - Xceed today launched Xceed Real-Time Zip for .NET and Xceed Real-Time Zip for .NET CF, which read and write fully standard Zip archives without resorting to intermediate disk/memory storage or temporary files.

Xceed’s Real-Time Zip products therefore give programmers access to “on-the-fly” streaming Zip file compression. These lightweight libraries for .NET / .NET CF 2.0 and up begin creating Zip files as soon as they receive data to compress: the components don’t wait for all of the files, or even for complete files, and don’t need to know how many there are. The resulting Zip file can immediately be sent over a network or saved locally, and the rest of the archive becomes available as it is compressed. Archived files are similarly extracted and available instantly for further processing even if the component is still receiving the Zip file. Regular Zip compression components simply cannot do this.

Xceed Real-Time Zip for .NET and Xceed Real-Time Zip for .NET CF consequently provide the type of optimized performance that is ideal for scenarios such as high-demand server environments, Biztalk servers, diskless operations, I/O-intensive Web sites, or any situation where real-time streaming zip/unzip capabilities are needed or where memory or disk space is at a premium. The size or number of files in a Zip archive has absolutely no impact on memory and disk-space requirements.

In addition to significant performance improvements, new standard capabilities, and bugfixes, all for free, this version marks the introduction of advanced features available exclusively to Vanguard subscribers.

Xceed Releases .NET FTP Library Upgrades

MONTREAL, QC - May 15, 2007 - Xceed today announced the release of version 3.5 of Xceed FTP for .NET and Xceed FTP for .NET Compact Framework.

The latest version of Xceed’s .NET FTP libraries support MODE Z, which allows data to be compressed using zlib before sending to an FTP server and decompressed when received from a server. Depending on the files involved, a significant optimization of bandwidth usage can potentially be attained. Furthermore, the FEAT command (also known as “Knowledge of Extra Capabilities”) has also been implemented, which allows an FTP client to query a server on the FTP protocol extensions it supports.

Xceed FTP for .NET now also offers the possibility of sending the Telnet interrupt signal before the QUIT command is sent to an FTP server. This allows an FTP server to be notified that the connection will be terminated. This feature is not supported by Xceed FTP for .NET Compact Framework.

Xceed FTP for .NET is a robust class library that lets developers add secure FTP file transfer capabilities to .NET and ASP.NET applications. It is designed to work with practically any type of FTP server. Xceed Adds Cell UI Virtualization to Grid for .NET

MONTREAL, QC - April 3, 2007 - Xceed today released version 3.6 of Xceed Grid for .NET, featuring cell UI virtualization for increased performance.

The use of cell UI virtualization in Xceed Grid for .NET v3.6 can greatly shorten load times and decrease memory usage in Grid-enabled applications that contain large amounts of data. Because cells are only created when they are needed, the more data a grid contains, the greater the optimization will be.

In tests done with a reference grid containing 10 columns and 100,000 data rows, cell UI virtualization produced load times that were 3.3 times faster compared to previous versions of Xceed's .NET datagrid. Memory usage was reduced by 55%.

Furthermore, another new feature-delayed data-bound data row load with collapsed detail grids-produced substantial performance increases. With a reference grid containing multiple detail grids, load time was 15.75 times faster.

Other recent additions to Xceed’s datagrid control include Microsoft Excel export capabilities, an integrated reporting engine, fixed-column support, and Vista theme support.

Xceed Introduces .NET-based BZip2 and BWT

MONTREAL, QC - April 3, 2007 - Xceed today announced the release of version 3.4 of Xceed Zip for .NET and Xceed Zip for .NET CF. These versions introduce support for BZip2 for improved compatibility with WinZip and greater compression ratios, and BWT for superior compression.

BZip2, a BWT-based block-sorting algorithm, can provide superior compression compared to the Deflate and Deflate64 compression methods. It is used in Zip files created with WinZip 11.0 and up. A second compression method using raw BWT block-sorting algorithm has also been added to Xceed’s .NET data compression libraries, which can provide even greater compression ratios, but which is not compatible with WinZip. An algorithm quickly determines which files or folders are not up-to-date and need to be replaced. Any conflicts trigger events, which are then resolved by developer-implemented code. Xceed Announces Vista Theme Support and New Visual Effects in Grid for .NET v3.5

Xceed Grid for .NET now supports Windows Vista themes, including custom themes installed on the end-user’s system. As a result, Grid-enabled applications can automatically adapt to the look of the currently selected theme.

The grid’s new gradient maps with support for transparency let developers create grid controls with light, shadow, and smooth surfaces, creating a more three-dimensional appearance in the grid. Programmers can set up gradient maps quickly and easily either programmatically or by using a gradient map editor in the Visual Studio 2005 designer, The number of colors in the gradient, where along its axis the colors are situated, the orientation of the axis, and the transparency of the gradient map can be controlled. The grid’s new interactive visual styles mean that developers can provide end-users with visual feedback from the grid, such as “hot-tracking”. The latest version of Xceed's datagrid control consequently lets applications fit into a company's workflow in powerful new ways. Data can first be visualized and handled in software equipped with Xceed Grid for .NET, and then passed on to Microsoft's Excel for further number-crunching and manipulation through an export function. Xceed Announces the Next in a Series of Zip for .NET Updates

MONTREAL, QC - June 17, 2005 - Xceed today announced the addition of extra headers to Xceed Zip for .NET v2.2 and Xceed Zip for .NET Compact Framework v2.2. Fully functional free trial versions (.NET and .NET CF) of these 100%-managed Zip compression components designed to work on the .NET Framework with Visual Studio are available for download.

Xceed Zip for .NET and .NET CF v2.2 feature support for detailed time-stamp information (last modified, last accessed and creation date/time) and Unicode filenames (international characters), in both PKWARE and Info-Zip formats. This is the second in a series of updates aimed at keeping Xceed's Zip libraries at the forefront of the industry, surpassing commercial offerings and free solutions alike.

The first in this series of updates (v2.1) brought significant speed improvements to Xceed's .NET Zip libraries when dealing with a large number of files. Compared to the previous version, version 2.1 was 40% to 80% faster while compressing and 20% to 30% faster while decompressing.

Following on the heels of the current update, a release in Q3 of 2005 will support files and archives larger than 4 GB, as well as archives containing more than 65535 files. Finally, planned for Q4 2005 is the addition of Winzip 9.0-compatible AES strong encryption to Xceed's .NET Zip libraries.

MONTREAL, QC - April 12, 2005 - Xceed adds important security features to its ActiveX Zip compression library and accessibility features to its .NET "SmartUI" controls. Fully functional free trial versions are available for download at www.xceedsoft.com.

Version 6.0 of Xceed Zip Compression Library features WinZip 9.0-compatible Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), sometimes referred to as Rijndael. Xceed Announces Speed Improvements to 6 Products

MONTREAL, QC - December 2, 2004 - Xceed today announced the release of updates to six of its .NET and ActiveX products, greatly improving the speed of these components and controls. Fully functional free trial versions are now available for download at www.xceedsoft.com.

Xceed Grid for .NET is now faster than Microsoft's DataGrid. Xceed's benchmarks show on average that sorting is 5 to 25 times faster than before (2 to 8 times faster than in DataGrid) and that display speed is 10% faster (5% faster than in DataGrid). Version 2.3 of Grid for .NET is part of Xceed UI Studio for .NET 2004 v3 and Xceed Ultimate Suite 2004 v4.

Xceed's Zip libraries have all seen speed improvements when dealing with a large number of files. Xceed Zip for .NET v2.1 and Xceed Zip for .NET CF v2.1 are now 40% to 80% faster while compressing and 20% to 30% faster while decompressing. Xceed Zip Compression Library v5.1 and Xceed Backup Library v1.1 are between 25% and 75% faster when compressing files in certain contexts. These latest versions are all available in Xceed Data Manipulation Suite 2004 v3 and Xceed Ultimate Suite 2004 v4.

Version 3.2 of Xceed SmartUI for .NET brings improvements to the overall responsiveness of applications using SmartUI controls and still delivers features that VS.NET controls lack. Some SmartUI for .NET controls feature more specific speed improvements. For menu bars, menu-item highlighting is 99% faster, and sub-menus open 86% faster. For treeview and option list controls, adding nodes is 68% faster, scrolling is up to 72% faster, and collapsing/expanding nodes is 78% faster. Finally, for Explorer task pane controls, adding groups is 98% faster and collapsing/expanding these groups is 99% faster. The latest version is part of Xceed UI Studio for .NET 2004 v3 and Xceed Ultimate Suite 2004 v4.

Although FTP is one of the most widely used protocols for file transfers over the Internet, it is inherently insecure: usernames and passwords are transmitted in such a way that they could be intercepted and subsequently used for unauthorized access to an FTP server.

FTP for .NET v.2.0 now supports SSL 3.0 and TLS (SSL 3.1). These industry-standard protocols make the secure transmission of files via FTP possible. Xceed's latest version of FTP for .NET also now permits asynchronous operations, meaning that applications remain completely responsive while waiting for an FTP server to respond.

These improvements make the library more than ever the standard for Windows programmers who need to work with the file transfer protocol under the .NET Framework.

Xceed Releases Update to Grid for .NET

Montreal, Quebec - May 4, 2004 - Xceed Grid for .NET v2.1 introduces improvements to the grid's end-user experience and object model. End-users will appreciate the addition of new usability features such as a single-click edit mode that allows them to simultaneously enter edit mode on a cell and activate items such as checkboxes, text and combo boxes with only one click. Previously, one click was needed to select a control, and a second click was necessary to enter edit mode. Xceed Releases Version 2.0 of Grid for .NET

Montreal, QC - January 5, 2004 - Xceed Grid for .NET v2.0 is now available. Xceed improves on the most advanced grid control available to the software component industry, augmenting its reliability, flexibility and display speed, while still providing a logical, object-oriented model for building powerful grid-based applications. Far more advanced, powerful and elegant when compared to the Windows Forms DataGrid class (which is notorious for being difficult to use and customize), Xceed's grid is nevertheless easier to use.

The new version of Grid for .NET stands out because of its combining row-based and cell-based features. It offers cell-based features such as the ability to use any .NET control as a viewer or editor and to add unbound rows without being bound to a collection or data source. But Xceed's grid control outclasses others because it combines these features with powerful row-based features, such as hierarchical master/detail views and Outlook-style row grouping.

Logical, easy-to-use hierarchical master/detail views

New built-in master/detail views support multiple detail views per row or level, which can be bound, unbound, or both. Developers can create, edit, delete, expand, and collapse master/detail views at design time, without resorting to coding by hand. Detail grids can now function independently or can automatically synchronize with one another so that they have the same columns, column order and configurations, sorting, and grouping. Finally, every grid element has its own tag property for custom user data.

Full XP look and feel

Applications can now have the XP look and feel, right down to the last pixel. This includes XP themes that adjust automatically to the user's current theme; and they can even work on non-XP systems.

Flexibility

The hierarchical master/detail view is so flexible that the grid can be used as a powerful bound or unbound TreeView control, providing developers with limitless levels and sub-items.
