I want to Create a DataTable with Only Group Values with which page that respective group will appear when we print preview the report, so that user can also print detail report & also an index report so that it will easily manage that which group is on which page, i am not getting exact idea of that how to know the page number of the group

Hi,

I have gone through the basic examples, but I cannot find exactly what I'm looking for.

I have a Xceed grid, version 3.9.13165.12030, with columns for quantity and price.

When grouping the grid, I would like to show the average per group, for the (quantity * price) in the price column.

Is it possible to do this?

Hello, my problem is....

if the user make some grouping and after that use the CONTROL key for select various grouping, only the first grouping automaticaly
select all the children inside the first group but for example if user select another collapse or non collapse group row children are not selected.

I need to get the child rows when user select a group row for select it by code.

Any idea would be very appreciated.

GridControl.Rectangle.Width is fetching wrong value in Outlook.

We have an application that is a plug in to Microsoft Outlook. When we login to our home page inside the application, we have some columns that are displayed ( like "from", "to", "subject" etc.). Our problem is everytime we login to this page after opening Outlook the columns are shoved to extreme left. Expected behaviour should be the columns retain their previous sizes and are not shoved to left. Our app is fetching the window size of the Outlook using "GridControl.Rectangle.Width" of Xceed.Grid.dll. Is this a known problem in some scenario? If we replace the current Xceed.Grid.dll with newer version will it get solved? Where can I get a trial version of this dll for testing?

BufferedGraphicsContext cannot be disposed of because a buffer operation is currently in progress.

Hi.

After filling grid with new rows or new data like (textboxs,checkboxs comboboxs etc.) hcount of GDI objects growth up,

and after method GridControl.Clear() or other operations, it not release or dispose this objects, and then the number of GDI objects is more 10000,

thrown this exception.

Format string cell as number

I've been trying to figure out a way to certain cells in a string column as a number. I have my grid setup as all string columns since I have different types of data throughout the grid. Currently, I'm running into issues of rounding problems as the formatted numbers need to have no decimals but the decimals need to be calculated in certain totals. I have the underlying data and can do it in the background but other grids reference this grid as well so while I can use the underlying data, which may be the better way to do this, I'm also on a time crunch so if there's a simpler solution with less impact to the total project, I'll take that for now.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Basically, I have a string cell and I'd like to show the underlying value as one format but keep the true value available in the cell.

How to get a DataBound item from a cell or parentrow

I am evaluating using Xceed Grid instead of the standard DataGrid from Windows. However, in using the normal Windows DataGrid I am able to do things like this:

MyDataItem item = (MyDataItem ) MyGrid.Rows[e.RowIndex].DataBoundItem;

in the Paint and format events.

Is there anyway to do something like:

MyDataItem item = (MyDataItem ) e.Cells.ParentRow.DataBoundItem;

I can't really find a way to get the databound item from the grid row or cell, so any help would be appreciated.

How to cancel a row change

Hi.

I have a grid, which is solely for showing data. Depending on the selected item, I do editing of data "externally" i.e in controls outside the grid. I need to make it possible to cancel a row change, if the user has made some changes to the external data.

I knov about the validation events, but it seems, they are not fired, unless some editing has been done in the grid itself, which the user cannot do.

Is there somehow I can get an event before the row is actually changed to the new item?

Until level 2 it's OK but I'm not able to create level 3.

Displaying images in databound grid column

I want to display images in a databound column. For instance, I'd like to display an up arrow if the value is 1 and a down arrow if the value is -1. Alternatively I could us an enum.

I'm download trial of Visual Studio 2012 Professional and trial of GridControl.

After GridControl placed on form -> save -> close constructor -> open constructor -> IDE tell an error in resx file. "fieldname.DataType" node... I'm try to use FW4.0, not 4.5.

Have you plans to make GridControl for WinForms comportable with Visual Studio 2012?

Exception at GetParentGridFromContainingList when using xceed Grid for .NET in MVP

Hi there,

I'm having a really hard time using the grid in my WinForms MVP Application. I use the presenter to query data from the database, populate an IList and set that as the datasource for the grid. This works so far.

When it comes to editing, insertion and deletion, I handle events like cell.EditLeft to fire an event that makes the presenter write the new value to the DB. After that I'm calling my presenters OnViewLoaded which reloads the data from the DB and sets the new values as the DataSource for the grid.

I tried A LOT of things to to get this working, but I'm not any closer to the solution

The changes to the IList are not required, but probably conflicting somehow? I just need a one way binding. I also got the feeling, that my problem somehow involves the currentRow. I tried setting the currentRow to dataRows(0) and the selectedRows to the currentRow, but in the circumstances that produce the error, no selection is visible.

Any ideas what might cause this?

I can supply code if required.

Custom CellViewerManager groupBy text

Hi,

I've created a custom CellViewerManager that displays an image by overrideing the GetImageCore method. The cell shouldn't contain any text.

However, when I group by the column I want text to be displayed. I've override the GetTextCore method but only display the text if it's a group header, not if it's a normal cell. How can I do this?

Icon display in WinGrid (for .Net, not WPF)

I've been reading thru the forums for a way to display individual icons in a datagrid cell. Using the CellContentTemplate seems like overkill and does not work well if you don't have data bound to an image in a table. For instance, if I have a column that says "Open Case" and I would like another column that has an image representing the Open Case status, I have no association in a database betwen the Open Case text and any icon in the database.

Just like I can swap controls out dynamically for input controls like a wincombobox, wintextbox, numerictextbox, etc, is it possible to replace a cell with a custom control or a windows control such as the picturebox? If so, this would be a neat solution since there is no image property on a wingrid cell.

Coincidentially, one limited workaround is to set a cell's Background Image, BackgroundImageAlignment and HorizontalAlignments such that an image displays on the left of each cell and the text is centered, but this is limited to very small images no larger than the height of the cell. I'd hate to rely on this method, if possible.

I have a scenario where I need to display ColumnToShow value of TableC on my datagrid (TableA). Can you help with suggestions what steps to take?

TableA is the datasource of my grid. It relates to TableB.ColumnB.

MasterDetail example question

I've been trying to build a Master/Detail grid using the example but without the sources for the NorthWind database or the access functions (specifically SampleData.DataProvider.GetNorthwindDataSet()), I am unable to figure out how.

In the example, gridcontrol1 is bound to "Shippers" which I expect is a table name.

However, detailGridTemplate is bound to "Shippers.ShippersOrders".

What exactly is "Shippers.ShippersOrders", a view, a relation?

I know the MasterDetail sample correctly reduces the detail to only those belonging to the parent row, but the example does not expose how this happens. Any hints would be helpful.

Also, is it possible to get the NorthWind database access functions used in the examples?

I'm expecting something like

gridControl1.SelectedRows[0].Cells[<field name>].value

but Cells collection doesn't exist in this context....

QTP can not get cell value from Xceed grid

QTP is identifying the grid as a generic object (SwfObject:grid) and not really a toolbar (Swfgrid)

How can i get the value out of the cells in the grid? Please find the first attachment, I would like to get cell values out of grid and compare with expected result.

Application under test is windows form using Xceed.Grid, a data grid control for .NET and Xceed.Grid version number is 3.7.8257.17090.

1. First picture shows grid, I would like to get value "1" from data row (0) and column Time4.
2. Second Picture: I tried to use "Dot Net Windows Form Spy", I can not see the cell value in the "Grid Data row properties"
3. Third Picture: I tried to use following code in QTP

Grid License Died

Using Xceed .NET Components that includes .Net Grid3.8, purchased Nov 2009 and it has worked without issue since then.

Today, the Grid License key is reported as invalid, yet the Editors and Validation keys are still OK. Uninstalled and reinstalled with no change. This worked yesterday and I've not made any changes to the development environment.

Where might I begin to look for a solution?

Xceed.Grid.Licenser.LicenseKey = "xxx" takes an AGE to complete

Hi, we use version 3.8.8577.11540 of the winforms grid control in our application, its referenced across 20 odd assemblies making up our solution.

Setting the LicenseKey property of the Grid control is taking upwards of 20 seconds to complete on one clients site in particular but seems fine at other clients. I also set the same property on Xceed.Editors.License and this sets with absolutely no delay.

The solution comprises several mixed vb and c# projects if that helps

I've just written a small console app with the same dependency and have timed how long it takes to set the license a bit more scientifically than just "AGES" :)

System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch reports almost exactly 30 seconds every time this is called. Last 4 ellapsed milliseconds were 30,274 / 30,411 / 30,249 & 30,239 which looks almost like a 30 second timeout is being hit somewhere although it ultimately sets the license key ok

Can anybody help?

Problems with Combox

I know I have to be doing something wrong but just can't find the issue. I am using v3.9 of the .Net Grid.

Problem: When the grid is displayed in the form, the combobox column is displaying the value of the column from the binding dataset for the grid. When I click on the cell, the combox displays the appropriate caption information. But when I move off the cell, the value either becomes empty or returns to the original value of the row from the binding dataset.

The dataset contains multiple datatables without any relations established. The grid is bound to one of the datatables and the combobox is bound to a different datatable.

The key value for the combo box is a string value (Alpha-Numeric). Not a typical numeric Id value showing a string Caption.

What is going wrong?

Export to XML fails to Load into Excel Because of a Style error.

I am having problems opening a XML file that was created by Xceed's Grid export. Sometimes I get a error from Excel 2003 when trying to open the XML file.

Error: "Problems came up in the following areas during Load: Style". It tells me to check a log file for a list of errors but I can not find the log file.

If I turn off IncludeGridStyles then the problem goes away. The Grid is a flat grid with no groups or custom editors. The XML file size is about 4M.

Any ideas as to what could be causing the error?

Hi,

I am working on Xceed Grid for .Net 3.7. I want to export the data to excel, not in XML but in xls format.

I followed some previous posts about this topic and saw a comment, "This feature is on our request list but currently not available in the grid. " at http://xceed.com/CS/forums/thread/9286.aspx.

I just want to confirm whether this is available in any latest service packs or not. And is there any other way to achieve this?

Update items in combo box CellEditorManager based on another cell value

I'm trying to update the items in a combo box in one cell, based off the value of a combobox in another cell. In the ActivatingControl event. I've tried adding and removing items from the WinComboBox returned by the CellEditorEventArgs.Control but I receive an error saying that the datasource does not support insertion or deletion. I get the same thing when attempting to remove items from the CellEditorEventArgs.Cell.CellEditorManager. I've also tried to update the datasource directly, which doesn't error but doesn't update the combo box either.

I'm setting up the combo box as follows:

Visible rows in .net Xceed Grid for .Net

for example , i added 100 rows, and at a time there are 40 -45 rows are visible.

by programming, how could i get the visible row numbers /count.

If i scroll down/ up in that case it should very , i could find the first visible row but number of visible rows / last visible row is not avaiable.

I am trying to put a left and right border on all cells in a row. To do this, I have created two classes: MonthlyBorderRow and BorderCell. I got most of the code from the Puzzle sample from Xceed. However, for some reason only the first cell in each row is getting the border. To set the created class as the template, I am using this line:

Scroll bars are not visible for Xceed Grid for .NET in Windows 7

I am facing a strange problem with Xceed Grid Scroll bars in Windows 7. I have a windows forms application that uses Xceed Grid (v 2.5) and the columns and rows for this grid are added at run time. The issue is, In Windows 7 the scroll bars (both) are not visible even if the columns or rows are exceeding the client visible area. But this is working fine in Windows XP.

Please help me in solving this issue.

Bug ? WinComboBox doesn't have the same behavior as .NET ComboBox

If your mouse is in the TextBoxArea of the WinComboBox when you open it and you already have a SelectedItem assigned to it, the highlighted item will be the one the mouse is on. This behavior is fine, however when you press an arrow key (up key or down key) the highlighted will be the one just before of after your original SelectedItem NOT the one before or after the CURRENT highlighted one (which is the one the mouse is pointing).

Here's an example with screenshots :

Item 1 is selected.

Now we open the combobox and we hover the mouse on another item in the list

Here's the result after pressing the DOWN ARROW KEY once

Notice that the new selected item is "item 2" but should be "item 6". If you repeat the same steps with .NET's ComboBox control, the selected item will be "item6" and to be honest it makes more sense for the user. So is this a bug ? If it is, is there an easy way to fix it.

Tested on .NET 2.0, Xceed Grid 3.1.6353.0

Howto get the displayed value from a gridcontrols cell

another thing that keeps me puzzled:

I built a grid with some lookup style columns (i.e columns displaying a lookup value for the actual item within the underlying

datarow by using a comboboxviewer and comboboxeditor). Now the problem is this:

I want to export the data that is displayed within the grid, but I can only access the cell value, but there seems to be no way

(that I know of) to access the displayed value. The documentation indicates, that it should be possible by querying the CellViewerManager

of the cell, maybe by calling its GetText(..) method, but there is no example and the usage remains quite unclear.

Anyone stumbled upon a similar problem?

Hello,

another topic that keeps me puzzled is how to insert a new datarow in a databound grid. This should be trivial:

Just insert the InsertionRow, fill in any values and the underlying datarow should be filled, when the EditEnded event is raised.

Of course, it is not that easy, what happens is this:

When I select the InsertionRow, a new empty DataRow is created. When leaving the InsertionRow, an EndEdit event is raised, the

data row remains empty and no new row gets inserted.

The documentation reads:

How to make the InsertionRow insert its data

As of version 1.1, the BeginEdit and EndEdit methods have been moved to the CellRow class rather than only the DataRow class meaning that you will only need to call the EndEdit method on the InsertionRow to commit the row.

So this should be a no-brainer...but it remains a mystery to me.

FitHeightToEditors-Property without effect

I tried using the FitHeightToEditors property on a detailgrid (applied to the DataRowTemplate property on the detail grid), that contains several DateTimePickers as

CellEditorManager (as was discussed under http://xceed.com/CS/forums/thread/30606.aspx).

Unfortunately, the row height is never changed, the DateTimePicker will only be partially visible.

I read the posting under http://xceed.com/CS/forums/thread/28254.aspx, but it's no real help, as it is not clear, how the feature

is exactly supposed to work. The documentation also does not give a clue...

Any help will be appreciated!

Inserting a row using the Insert row causes frustration for the user.

When someone inserts a row using the insert line and they press the Enter key in the first cell the row is added and moves to the bottom of the Grid (if no sorting). The user then needs to find the row they just added and finish adding data to the rest of the cells.

Is there a way to prevent this or at least move the focus to the newly add row?

Hello,

I have a datatable whose rows have a uniqueid and a parentid.

any row whith a parentid of zero is a top level row (it is not a child of any other row).

Any row that has a parentid is a child of the row which has that id as its unique id etc (a foreign key).

A row in the datatable can have any number of child items which could recurse forever.

I am looking for a solution that will allow me to bind the datatable to a grid control and for the grid control to sort the parent / child relationships and show them as collapsable groups using 'DetailGridTemplates'.

I also require the ability to add further rows as child rows into the grid.

I have looked at the 'GridTreeViewBrowser' example and downloaded another example project from

http://www.xceedsoft.com/cs/download/XceedGrid/CSharp/Grid TreeView.zip

Am I asking too much of the xceed grid?

I encountered some strange behaviour on the Xceed Gridcontrol for Windows Forms (v3.9), trying to implement a databound master detail

grid. I setup and loaded two datatables in a dataset with an additional Parent-Child-Relationship between these two tables added to the

dataset. The relation has been tested, there is no problem in navigating the parent-child relationship (e.g. by calling DataRow.GetChildRows,

using this relation).

When establishing the databinding in the detailgrid, an exception is thrown: "Child list for field RelationParentChild cannot be created"

The actual code looks like this:

gridControl.BeginInit();

gridControl.SetDataBinding(dataTableParent, "");

// additional code to setup grid

DetailGrid detailGrid = new DetailGrid();

// additional code to setup detail grid

gridControl.Add(detailGrid);

I read related postings to this problem, but none seems to address this special issue, as the databinding

Checkbox inside Grid - Issue in Win 7

I have a XCeed Grid which has one column as Checkbox. This Checkbox works perfectly fine in Win Xp, but under Windows 7, the checkbox is not visible at first. However, if i doubleclick on the cell containing the checking box, it would be visible.

I am using .Net 1.1 with Xceed Grid 2.1.

I have a GridControl with a DetailGridTemplate, and this template has a GroupByRow. In run-time I fill the GridControl with some DetailGrids, and each DetailGrid is filled with some DataRows. When I try to group the DataRows of any DetailGrid, I have the error described at the end of the post (please refer the stack trace below). Curiously, when I add the GroupByRow to the DetailGrids programatically (and not using the DetailGridTemplate), this erros does not occur and the DataRows are grouped correctly.

I have a grid column defined as DateTime. If I attempt to set a cell to a value of 0001-01-01 (eg. 1st of January 0001) then the value displays as Null.

My code is:

c.Value = CDate(dataval) ' dataval is a string variable with value '0001-01-01'

At the end of this:

c.Value is Date: #12:00:00 AM#

c.GetDisplayText is "NULL" (which is the value of c.NullText)

0001-01-01 is a valid date and should display OK in the grid.

we've migrated from XCeed Grid 2.2 to 3.9..Now we have noticed a problem on editing a date-cell. The date cell should display e.g. 'Jun 2011'. This works as desgined. But when a user wants to edit this value nothing happens: The calendar control does not open. I use the following settings on the grid column:

FormatDateColumnHeader = New System.Globalization.DateTimeFormatInfo

FormatDateColumnHeader.ShortDatePattern = "MMM yyyy"

gridcol.FormatProvider = GridGeneral.FormatDateColumnHeader

gridcol.FormatSpecifier = "d"

This worked fine with XCeed Grid 2.2, but at least in my case it'S not working. What yould be the correct way of solving thigs?

Custom sorting IComparer only called when sort direction is Ascending (bug?)

I have implemented a custom sorter and monitor the sort direction of the column using Column.SortDirectionChanged to create the illusion of fixed rows. What I need is to keep a certain order in a group while sorting. Say there are three types of values grouped together (value types A,B and C). I need to sort the A separate from the B which are in turn sorted separate from the C. Unfortunately, Compare is only called when the columns sort direction is Ascending (monitored during debug). Is this a know bug in the grid or might I have implemented something wrong? If the thought is this is in my implementation could you please provide a simple example that works properly?

Here is a quick sample to check this behaviour. It is just a VB.Net Windows Forms app with a single label dropped on it. When this is run it confirms what I saw while debugging in a larger application. The label text is only modified after the first click on the column header at which time its text is changed to Ascending. It never changes after this.

I have a cell in my grid that has a Numerictext Editor as Editor manager, configured in edition mode.. When i write in the cell a number, i want to use the numeric keyboard but i have a problem that i don't know how to solve. i want that appears a comma instead a dot when i push the dot key in the numeric keyboard.

I tried to use the keypress event but it doesn't work.

Cell LeavingEdit vs Row EditEnded

I'm catching the LeavingEdit of one cell in the grid and depending on some conditions, the LeavingEdit might be canceled. The problem I have is that the Row EditEnded event is called even if I'm canceling the LeavingEdit of my cell.

Is that normal ?

If so, is there another event that will not be launched if I cancel the LeavingEdit of my cell but that will be launched if I modify anyone of the cells in my row ?

I AM NOT using a database for this data. i am using an business object.

It is binding properly and able to display the records, But problem arises when there are no child items. As per my requirement, there might be chance that there will no child records for some of the parent items. How can i resolve this? i want to display parent with no child items.

I want to go with xceed grid for one of my project requirement. We have requirement where we need to indent/outdent the rows in a hierarchy sturcture.

For eg :

I have a button which should make peter child of a jane. For instance as following

From presentation wise , I did use indented property on row and it shows in ui in similar way, but I have to save this format, i,e at runtime I had to make the “jane” as parent of peter and so on like this.

Can you please suggest how can I implement this or is it possible at all?

I am working entering data in a insertionrow with three cells, product_code , product_description and price.

I put a value in a "code" cell and then i run a query to a sql db to get the description of this product, and put the description in a "description cell" or give an error. i am doing this operation like this :

Dear Xceed Support Team and members!
We are using a Grid for .NET 3.8 for Winforms in Visual Studio 2008 with framework 3.5. We upgraded our operating systems on development environment from Windows XP PRO to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and now a selected row of grid has a sky blue background color and a white fore color. Not selected row is viewing with standard windows colors. All our attempts to change these colors to those that shown in Windows XP failed.
How can we solve this problem?

Collapse detailgrid row data dissapears

I am trying to collapse programmatically some detail grids I have in my grid control, but the columns and rows misteriously dissapear from the detail grid. Strange enough that the number of rows are still there but with no columns.

I have used both Collapse() method and the property collapsed directly.

Application crashes on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

Hi all,

I have a WinForm-Application using latest Grid 3.9 for .net 4.0. I compile it for x64. It works fine on my Win7 and also on Win7 from a colleague. But when we copy the files to our WinServer 2008 R2, the application could be started but it crashes (Kernelbase.dll) as soon as all controls are initialized and the main form should be displayed. Are there any specials I have to do for WIndows Server 2008 regarding the grid?

We currently use Grid for .net 3.6, Chart for .net 4.1, SmartUI for .net 3.4. in a windows XP environment.

Can we keep these versions and move to VS 2010 on windows 7 in a mixed environment of 32bit/64bit on x86 machines? Or do we have to move to the .net 4.0 framework version of the controls?

I downloaded a demo of the latest version and that was for version 4 of the .net framework.
We currently use the version 3.6.7559.11410 of the Xceed Grid for .net.

I'm facing the following situation: I edit a cell of a row,by entering a wrong value (which will cause the e.CancelEdit to be set to false in the cell's ValidationError event handler, and an error message set in the cell's LeavingEdit handler). With the cell being in edit mode, I click on the "minus" sign to collapse the detail grid containing the edited row, nothing happens, click again, an exception is raised here:

I tried to override the OnCollapsedChanged on my custom derived DetailGrid but it seems the code is not reached.

Any ideea of how to deal with this error? Thanks.

Scrollbar jumps from right to left when we click on column to sort?

I started working on a Xceed Grid for .Net windows forms. I am unable to avoid the horizontal scrollbar jump from right to left when i tried to sort the grid by clicking on a column. I observed the code clears the rows and once again binds the datasource. Is there any way to avoid the scroll bar jumps in this case?

I am interested in measuring the time and performance of the grouping and sorting functionality of the Xceed Grid. I need a way to trap the event of dragging and dropping the column header to group by that field, as well as clicking on the column header to sort that field. i Have about 9k records to test and its important for me to know the amount of time it takes with a large dataset.

Does anyone have any suggestions or methods or functions I can look at in order to do this. Thanks.

means an normal sort, but if an value was changed, the changed row stays where it was.

Sum Function in Footer Row for Nullable data type

It would appear as though this was raised as an inssue and resolved in the WPF Grid (http://xceed.com/CS/forums/post/12307.aspx) however in the .Net version it still seems to be an issue. When I try to sum on a Nullable<decimal> column, I just get a red X drawn across the footer cell.

I am not keen to change the data type of the source, because there are actually some nulls in the data set (which has a different meaning to the end user than 0) therefore need it to stay as Nullable<decimal>.

Hi,

We were using an old version of the grid for .Net 1.1 and recently started updating our product to use .Net 4 and the latest version of the Grid. Our code binds to a DataSet and then loops through the columns in the Grid and sets visibility of the columns based on data from an XML file. The old version of the grid had the columns available right after the data bind but the new version does not. I was wondering how I can force this to happen. I saw a very old post that stated you could create a new DataBindingContext and assign it to the grid's BindingContext but this didn't work either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Poor performance when using GetFittedWidth()

I am loading 8000 rows into a Xceed Datagrid (~40 columns). After that I'm calling GetFittedWidth() which consumes 90% of the time. Loading the rows from the database takes 10s and GetFittedWidth() takes 90s, which is quite long.

Is there a way to fasten up this process? As the wait time for the user is too long.

I am building a master/detail grid that has worked in other applications (of course I have changed the tables/fields to work with current database).

Reporting.GenerateReportForm column order on report

How do you get the columns on a generated report form to use the visibleindex on your grid instead of the column index? I have the grid set to allow columns to be moved by the user, but the columns don't show up in the customized order when you call Xceed.Grid.Reporting.GenerateReportForm(ReportGrid) where ReportGrid is my grid control.

How do you do this?

When you run the following code:

A list of reportstylesheets are listed. These stylesheets are defined under Xceed.Grid.Reporting.ReportStyleSheet. How do I default the chosen stylesheet on the generated report form to be Xceed.Grid.Reporting.ReportStyleSheet.CorporateAerated?

This is such a simple task but it seems this is impossible to do in the Xceed libraries!

It's been more than the defined 2-5 day response time, has anyone even seen this post? Need an answer ASAP.

DetailGrid column header row freeze

Hi there,

We are evaluating the XceedGrid for .NET Win Forms v3.8.

We have MasterGrid that displays 10Ks of rows and each row has detail associated with it, which is being displayed using the DetailGrid control available in Xceed. able to view the DetailGrid by clicking the + sign in the MasterGrid row, but the DetailGrid content sometimes goes out of the visible row, that time we have to scroll the MasterGrid scroll to view the below content, in such cases the ColumnHeader Row of th DetailGrid goes out of visible area, instead we would like to stick that in top (freeze just below the MasterGrid's Header).

1. How can we Freeze the DetailGrid's ColumnHeader row at top?

2. How can we customize the visual style of the DetailGrid's ColumnHeader?

3. Is it possible to customize the style of the GroupByRow that is just above the MasterGrid column header Row? if so how do we achieve that?

ValueMember in bound ComboBox

Hi,

I have the .NET grid (not WPF) with a column that contains a combobox, that is bound to a datatable in a dataset.

I do the binding like this:

myCombo.SetDataBinding(GetMyDataSet(), "TheTable");

myCombo.DisplayFormat = "%Description%";

myCombo.ValueMember = "ID";

So the display works fine: I see the Description field of the "TheTable" table displayed as expected. My question is, shouldn't the Value of this cell now be the "ID" in the bound table, rather than the Description? Isn't that the whole point of the ValueMember field?

If for example, I need to get the currently selected Value in this combobox, from some other part of the code, I have to do this:

...

row.Cells["TheColumnWithTheComboBox"].EnterEdit();

WinComboBox MyCombo = row.Cells["TheColumnWithTheComboBox"].CellEditorControl as WinComboBox;

...

If I now do MyCombo.SelectedValue or indeed just:

row.Cells["TheColumnWithTheComboBox"].Value.ToString()

...

I would expect the Value to be the "ID" column of the bound dataTable, not the description which is what it is?

So how do I get the ID value?

How to change color of selected rows in child grids?

I have tried numerous things to set the background color of selected rows but nothing seems to work...

I'm creating a stylesheet using the StyleSheet class so I can set the properties and apply it to the grid. However, I can't find the property in the stylesheet that, when applied, modifies the Grid.FixedColumnManager.BackColor.

persist current selection after column sort

First, in my grid I do not allow multiple rows to be selected. Selecting a cell selects the entire row.

When I sort a column the grid always scrolls to the top, and the cell/row I had selected is no where to be seen.

This gives a bad experience for my users. They use grouping first, scroll down to a group of interest and make decisions on how the sort the grouped rows by column.

When the column header is clicked for sorting, the grid scrolls to the top. The user must now scroll back down and find the group they were working with.

Seeing no easier solution, I tried the following:

Subscribe to SortedColumnsChanged, in which I save the CurrentCell.
Subscribe to Sorted, in which, if the saved cell is not null, I call BringIntoView.
But BringIntoView will always throw an exception.
Alternatively, I tried subscribing to CurrentRowChanged, in which, if the saved cell is not null, I call BringIntoView.
But again I get exceptions.

Any other ideas?

I have created a control that is derived from Xceed.Grid.GridControl, which is being used to display a hybrid bound/unbound set of data rows.

The datasource is a LINQ query which has an ID, Description and EntitySet<> with zero to many records from a child table.

I manually create columns for all possible values (I guess like a pivot table) and have implemented a custom Cell and overridden GetValue() and SetValue() to work on the values from the column that has the data...

I have used a custom CellEditorManager to handle the editing of the value, and I have successfully set it up so that when the user edits the cell, a custom control appears (inPlace = false) and the control is populated with the value (if it had one) or a new one is created if it was null.

If I exit the editor (TAB, or select another row somewhere), data was not being saved. I have tracked it down to an exception being thrown somewhere in the Validation of the cell, with the message that the "Object must implement IConvertible".

I am not sure which object is supposed to implement IConvertible, or why it should need to.

I am using version 3.9 of the Grid for .Net.

FieldName and DataType are read-only in Visual Studio 2010??

After upgrading to the VS2010 upgrade and the Ultimate Suite 10.3, I found out that the FieldName and DataType of a column and read-only!

Here is what I have done:

add a unbound column in the grid
change the title, name, fieldname or datatype
the designer refreshes and the newly added column is gone!

I had a look into the class reference, it is saying that the fieldname is read-only. And I took a quick look at the tutorials http://doc.xceedsoft.com/products/XceedGrid/. In step 2 of section "Building an unbound grid", it says "To change the column's data type and field name, select the column and change the value of the FieldName and DataType properties via the property grid." This is very confusing!

However, I have found some "workarounds":

open up the form1.designer.cs, add the fieldname and datatype into the constructors. But, you'll need to be sure that you won't touch the grid from the designer anymore. Because, if you do, all the changes are going to be wiped out by the code regeneration.
do the grid initialisation manually by yourself in the form1.cs.

I clearly remember that I could change the values of fieldname and etc in VS2008 and Grid for .Net3.2. Don't know what has been changed in this release.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated!!

checking to see if a specific datarow is selected

I have a C#.Net WinForm with two seperate grids. One grid is populated when the form loads. I want to populate the 2nd grid with different data based on which row from the first grid is selected.

How can I do something like the follow:
