VB 2005, .NET 2.0, latest Xceed version and Vista

    Hello,

I am currently developing an application in VB .NET (2003), with .NET framework version 1.1 and pretty old versions of Xceed components (Grid 2.5, Editors 1.0 etc).

If I need my application to work on Windows Vista do I need to upgrade to the newer versions of Xceed components (like 3.2 for Grid on .net 1.1 framework)?

Also, if I want to go for the latest Xceed component versions, do I have to migrate to VB 2005 with .NET 2.0, in order for the Xceed components to work?

Please let me know, and correct me if I have wrong ideas on this subject. Also could you let me know any other useful information in this regard?

    Thanks.

Re: VB 2005, .NET 2.0, latest Xceed version and Vista

    You have it right.

We only support our latest components in Vista. Which means that if you're in .NET 1.1, you need to install the 2.2.6565.0 installation package, AND install the latest Service Pack for .NET 1.1. The grid version in .NET 1.1 is 3.2.

Our latest installation package (3.0 and up) is for .NET 2.0 only, which means that if you want to use grid 3.6 and up, you need to migrate to VS 2005.

Here is the update <a href="http://xceed.com/pages/TopMenu/Downloads/Updates.aspx?Lang=EN-CA">page</a> from which you can get these packages.

Re: VB 2005, .NET 2.0, latest Xceed version and Vista

    Hi,

I have a couple of questions:

    1. NONE of the versions of Xceed Smart UI for .NET mention Vista compatibility. What issues can I expect when I am running applications developed using Smart UI controls on Vista?

    2. For Xceed Editors for .Net, only versions 2.2 and higher are Vista compatible and at the same time work only with .Net framework 2.0. Similarly for Xceed Chart, version 4.1 alone supports Vista and works only with .Net 2.0. Does that mean I am forced to migrate to VS 2005 if I want to use Editors/Chart versions that are Vista compatible or are there versions of these two components that are based on .NET framework 1.1 and still work on Vista? (similar to Xceed Grid 3.2)

In general, when the list of new features for any Xceed component says "Full Windows Vista support", does it mean that the older versions of Xceed components will have a few issues (if so, what are they?) or will they NOT WORK AT ALL on Vista?

I greatly appreciate your support and quick response to my queries.

    Thanks.

Re: VB 2005, .NET 2.0, latest Xceed version and Vista

1- Our .NET 1.1 or .NET 2.0 version of SmartUI will work in Vista, in the sense that all controls will display fine and behave as expected, except that Vista theming is not supported. That is, they will display as XP style.

2- If you want full support for Vista with our grid, that is, display with Vista theme, you need to use .NET 2.0. If you use .NET 1.1, you will need to set a specific UIStyle, like XP, so it displays correctly, because Vista theming is not support in the .NET 1.1 grid.

In .NET 1.1, all are components will work in Vista, but basically, Vista theming is not supported.
